IPv6 support in Server applications

There are several applications support IPv6 from the box. Some has to be recompilled with with a specific IPv6 enabling switch. Some has a patch that allows IPv6 operations. This page we try to summarise these informations for the most popular applications.

Web servers

Apache2

• [http://httpd.apache.org Apache2] (series 2 (2.x)) does support IPv6 from the box, however here is a [:Apache2Guide: guide] to properly configure Apache2 in IPv6 environment.

Apache1

[http://httpd.apache.org Apache1] does support IPv6 only with external patch (for versions 1.3.11 - 1.3.33). It is better to upgrade to Apache2.

Microsoft IIS

SMTP servers

A general [:smtpguideline: guideline] to IPv6 SMTP servers to avoid problem with broken servers.

Sendmail

[http://www.sendmail.org Sendmail] supports IPv6 since version 8.10, hoewever is a [:SendmailGuide: guide] to properly configure sendmail in IPv6 environment.

Postfix

Exim

[http://www.exim.org Exim] supports IPv6 since version 4.30. Here is a [:EximGuide: guide] to properly configure exim in IPv6 environment.

MS Exchange

[http://www.microsoft.com MS Exchange] does not support ipv6 either in Exchange 2003 or in Exchange 2007. Here you find our [:ExchangeGuide:test report] in hungarian.

Lotus Notes/Domino server

[http://www.lotus.com Notes/Domino] server supports ipv6 on certain platforms. Here you find our[:DominoGuide:Notes configuration guide].

qmail

[http://cr.yp.to/qmail.html Qmail] has not got proper IPv6 support. There is an [:qmailguide:alternative solution] for it.

NNTP server

INN

Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer 6 does support IPv6 if you are using an operating system, that support IPv6

Lynx

Lynx supports IPv6

Konqueror/Safari

Konqueror/Safari does support IPv6

Mail clients

Mozilla/ThunderBird

All modern versions of mozilla/firefox supports IPv6.
